Element Superhero
In the Element Superhero project, each student on our team was assigned an element, and had to research it, then create a superhero based on that element. My element was bismuth, number 83 on the periodic table. It is a silvery pink metal, and it can change into beautiful, iridescent crystal if melted. Its thermal conductivity is lower than every metal except mercury. Its diamagnetism is incredibly high, the highest of any metal. It is radioactive, but its half life is so long, at roughly 1.9 times ten to the nineteenth years, that it might as well be stable. Its uses include medicine (such as Pepto Bismol), cosmetics, and fire detection/sprinkler systems.
Totally real, and not at all fake, government file on my superhero.
Name: Crystallizer
Secret Identity: Ivette Suárez
Location: South America
“Story”: Growing up in Bolivia, Crystallizer had a very poor lifestyle. She gained her powers when, under her home, she found what she presumed to be a large amount of lead. When she sent a sample to a company that would buy it, they said that it was not, in fact, lead, but instead bismuth. Upon hearing this, she stamped her feet in frustration, making a chunk of bismuth crystal jolt out of the ground, impaling her house. The piece of bismuth she was holding also shot out of her hand, going through the wall of her house. Suddenly curious, she experimented with her powers, making spiraled crystals shoot out of the ground, and using her hand as a sort of anti-magnet. It is said that she has her powers because she was exposed to so much of the material through her life.
Originally, she used her powers to get bismuth out of the ground, earning money from selling the beautiful crystals. Once she had more money than she could ever know what to do with, it must have been years later, she turned to a life of justice, anonymously helping the police force in South America.
Powers: Her powers fall into two main categories. Metal based, and crystal based. The metal based abilities are her powers over magnetism, repelling metal objects, and a resistance to heat. The crystal based ability is to find bismuth in the ground, and bring it to the surface. In the process, the bismuth heats up because of the friction, and turns into a crystal. She is also weak to the cold. Bismuth expands when it freezes, and so does she.
Her supersuit tries to address these resistances and weaknesses. It has anti-freeze technology, and even keeps her warm is it's mildly cold outside. It has bismuth sewn into it, not only strengthening her powers, but also helping the suit to be able to withstand heat, without putting a danger to Crystallizer like mercury would. It is unknown who provided this suit.
